About Valencia

Valencia with its almost one million inhabitants, is a city where tradition and modern facilities complement each other perfectly. Beautiful old buildings, sophisticated conference facilities and wonderful hotels make Valencia a unique destination. Add to this a beautiful coastline and a Mediterranean climate with over 300 days sunshine a year and you'll understand why so many people want to live here.

Over the last few years Valencia has hosted the America's Cup, the Volvo Ocean Race and the Formula 1 Grand Prix. The airport is only 8 km from the city (accessible by metro, taxi or bus) and the high speed AVE links Valencia to Madrid in just an hour and a half. In 2010 Valencia became the first Mediterranean port to handle more than 4 million TEUs (containers) and will soon have the most advanced logistics network in Southern Europe.

The City of Arts and Science is a futuristic architectural marvel. Santiago Calatrava designed an opera house, a science and interactive technology museum, an IMAX theater and a huge aquarium. However the luxury of modern Valencia does not detract from its authentic charm. The cozy cafes of Barrio del Carmen still serve homemade tapas. The bodegas sell delicious local wines and the Palau de la Música hosts traditional (classical) concerts.

Each year around 23 million tourists visit Valencia, mainly from Spain and other European countries. Life is good with a very mild climate, varied and healthy Mediterranean cuisine and the many traditional festivals give visitors a glimpse into the life of the Valencianos themselves, such as the annual Fallas, Moros y Cristianos festivals and the Tomatina.
